NCES Kids' Zone

What is it?
  • The NCES Kids' Zone provides information to help students learn about schools; decide on a college; find a public library; engage in several games, quizzes and skill building about math, probability, graphing, and mathematicians; and to learn many interesting facts about education.

How can you use it?
  • Kids' Zone lends itself for math lessons because of the great graphing abilities. The graphing tools could be used in other subject areas since it is very easy to set up.
  • There is a lot of information about libraries that could be used for different classes. Students can learn research skills and connect to their community.
  • In high school it can be used to explore colleges and access other educational information.

Why would you use it?
  • There are many different tools that students can use. There is a lot of information all in a safe site that is designed for kids. For the graphing tools, they are self explanatory and easy to use. There would not have to be a separate lesson to learn how to use the tool.
  • Pros- This site is very user friendly. There are many different ways that this site can be used.
  • Cons- There are games on the site. Personally, I do not mind if students play games after they get their assignment done. However, this may be a negative for some eventhough the games are educational.
  • NETS- 1,3,4
